When my eldest son Sebastian started kindergarten, I was the most eager mother there on the first day of school. I was SO excited that he was accepted into a spanish immersion program. I showed up multiple times over the summer before the school started so that everyone would know who I was and that I was ready to help. We picked this school because it was the "underdog of schools". They barely raised any money through the PTA but the moms were there having lunch with their children. Some things are more important. The family unity that I witnessed while on a school tour here brought butterflies to my stomach and I knew from that moment I wanted to be part of this special community. They had a heavy latino family base and that was extremely important to us. I wanted Sebastian to go to a school where he was exposed to latin culture. I promised a fundraiser as they had no history of ever doing one. It was very important to our principal that we have a community event. We are a school with 70% latino families who do not speak any english. It was important for us to figure out a way to break the barrier and unite with the whole school while bringing forth the community businesses and asking them to support the school that represents the Mission District.

On that note, we are proud to host our First Annual Dia De Los Ninos Festival at Marshall Elementary School located at 15th and Capp Street. It will be a beautiful sunny day with music, delicious food, delicious juices, bouncy castle, raffle items, silent auction and families! Come and see what we are all about! We are a small school with a BIG heart! Thanks to everyone who has supported our event! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
